THE ULTIMATE GUIDE TO CAMPING: PART 2
This post is all about the most important thing when camping; THE FOOD! We always “glamped” it up when it came to food. None of that eating from a can every night. This camping food checklist is just to guide you with things to bring. Of course your’s may vary a bit and you don’t HAVE to get everything on this list. Depending on how long we camp will depend on what we bring and how much (obvi)
We usually do two coolers. One for beverages and the other for the meat, fruits, and veggies.
When placing things in coolers, I like to try to have all the big meat (chicken, ribs, flank steak) frozen first. TIP: place meat in a bag to marinate and freeze flat. After it’s frozen, stick in the cooler to help keep the rest of your food extra cold. I try to use big ice packs when I can and then fill the remaining with ice. Another important thing to note is that every time you open up the cooler you let the cold out! Cover your cooler with a blanket and try to keep in a shady area or bear bin!
Sidenote: If you are camping where bears may be DO NOT leave your coolers or any food in your car or tent. (I will touch on this a bit more in another post)
We try to eat as clean as possible when we are camping. No one wants to feel miserable. However, I also know that camping is something fun and special, so getting things like marshmallows, graham crackers, and chocolate to make s’mores will ALWAYS happen. What’s camping without s’mores!! When I was little our treat was getting the little boxes of cereal that you poured the milk right into. We only got it when camping and it was so awesome! I encourage you to find something “special” and make it a camping tradition!
Let’s move on to the list shall we! Like I said earlier, this is more of a guide. You don’t have to get everything on this list and you are more than welcome to add to the list. YOU are the one camping!
Camping-Checklist-FoodAs far as what you should pack when you are in the car in case you get the munchies; I basically pack anything that is on the dry list plus some fruits and veggies. Our go-to’s are jerky, baby carrots, apples/applesauce, rxbars/granola bars, grapes, mini bell peppers. If I know we will be on a long road trip I will also make sandwiches for the kids and pack them up.
We always have reusable water bottles filled with water in the car as well.
What are your must have food items when you go camping?
