Right now is the perfect time to get creative in the kitchen with cocktails. The Classic Bloody Mary is a favorite in our household. It’s great for weekend brunching or even to have as a late afternoon bbq/hang out sesh with your friends and family.
My love for Bloody Mary’s run deep. I’ve been having them for as long as I can remember. Yup, you read that right. Since a child! But before you get all nutso over me having Bloody Mary’s as a youngster, I had them with no booze in it! Hashtag OBVIOUSLY.
Which brings me to my next point! These are oh so delicious without booze. Which means you can totally give it to your kids (and actually it’s quite healthy for them and they will feel oh so grown up)
In my opinion, the best part about Bloody Mary’s is all the fixings or garnishes that you get to add to it. Sometimes they can get a bit extravagant with burgers and onion rings, but I like to keep it a bit more classy (hence the “classic” name) A piece of celery, a toothpick with your favorite olives and bacon. Sometimes I’ll take it up one more notch and add some pickled okra or pickled asparagus.
You can use any tomato mix you’d like, but lately my favorite is using Zupa Noma “Tomato Gazpacho” It’s fresh and flavorful and really adds to the Bloody Mary. ( use code ‘DONUT15’ to get 15% off any Zupa Noma drinkable soup or veggie shot) Since Zupa Noma is a drinkable soup it is a bit thicker than normal Bloody Mary tomato mix. If you use Zupa you will have to dilute it a bit with some water (or vodka, I don’t judge 😉 )
Ingredients
- 1 bottle Zupa Noma Tomato Gazpacho or 6 oz tomato juice
- 2 ounces vodka (omit if making a mocktail)
- 1 tbl lemon juice
- 1/2 tsp pickle or caper juice
- 3 dashes Worcestershire sauce
- 2 dashes of hot sauce
- ice
- 1 tsp ground cayenne pepper
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- 2 tsp sea salt
- celery
- peppered bacon
- pickled okra, green bean, or asparagus
- green olives
- martini onions
- cherry tomatoes
Instructions
- Take a glass and wet the top with some lemon. Place upside down into the mixed seasonings.
- Add a couple pieces of ice and set aside.
- In a shaker add all the Bloody Mary ingredients plus some ice. Shake well. (If using Zupa Noma add an additional 1/4-1/2 cup water to shaker to dilute)
- Pour contents of shaker into your glass and garnish with any fixings you want
What do you like in your Bloody Mary’s? I always have to have green olives, pickled okra, and bacon!
Whole30: omit Worcestershire and vodka
Paleo: omit Worcestershire and use “paleo friendly” vodka
