This Blood Orange Raspberry Sparkling Mocktail is a new favorite drink of mine for spring and I’m excited to share this simple, delicious, recipe with you. To really make sure you are getting the best of flavors in any drink you make, check out what’s in season!
I really take advantage of when blood oranges come in season. I will buy tons at the store when I see them because they are just so good. We have a tree, but did you know that citrus grows every other year?! Meaning one year you can have tons and tons of fruit on your tree. And then the next you only may get 5 that grow. That is also why one year you may see a ton in grocery stores and then the next year not find any at all, or they are only available for a couple of days!
The most common blood orange is the Cara Cara, but if you want a deep dark red go for the Sanguinello. Blood oranges taste like an orange and raspberry got together and had a major make-out sesh. You get the tart from the orange and get sweet notes similar to a raspberry. They are absolutely divine. So why wouldn’t blood oranges and raspberries be great in a drink together!
This mocktail is Whole30 and paleo, with the option for alcohol if you want to make it into a cocktail! Either way they are both fab!
Ingredients
- 2 blood oranges, juiced (1 cup)
- 1/2 pint raspberries
- 1/2 12 oz can of sparkling water or lemon sparkling water
- 2 oz rum
- 3 mint leaves
- 1 tbl simple syrup
Instructions
- Muddle raspberries in a shaker until they are completely smashed.
- Add blood orange juice and some ice and shake well. Let sit for a couple of minutes to let the flavors combine.
- Pour half into a glass and fill the rest with your sparkling water.
- Garnish with blood orange and raspberries
- Muddle raspberries and mint leaves together.
- Add in your blood orange juice, rum, simple syrup, and ice. Shake to combine.
- Pour into a cocktail glass and top with a splash of sparkling water.
- Garnish with a mint leaf, raspberries, and blood orange wedge.
If you want to add simple syrup to sweeten it up a bit, but want to keep is paleo (it won’t be Whole30) add 2 cups coconut sugar to 1 cup of boiling water. Stir for 3-5 minutes or until thermometer reads 230 degrees. Remove from heat and let cool.
