INSTANT POT EGG TUTORIAL

I have been wanting to write do an Instant Pot Egg Tutorial for awhile now! Hard-boiling eggs was the game changer when it came to deciding whether the Instant Pot was worth it!!  Previously I had tried every way possible to cook an egg to perfection. (my favorite method before the Instant Pot was steaming them)

Sidenote: if you still don’t own an instant pot/pressure cooker and you want to know how to get the perfect egg, steam them for 12 minutes and then move them directly into an ice bath.

Moving on.

I did 3 different “times” for you, because lets be honest, we all like our eggs differently!!  With each time, the method is always the same. Eggs go on a metal rack and you always place 1 cup of cold water into the pot. I still put them in an ice bath to chill out for a bit too.  This helps the egg shell come off way easier!

Here are the ways to achieve the 3 eggs pictured above.

  1. HARD-BOILED:  Place eggs on metal rack and add 1 cup of COLD water into pot.  Close pressure cooker and manually set for 7 MINUTES. Once done, manually release the pressure and carefully place eggs into an ice bath (they will be HOT)
  2. SOFT-BOILED:  Place eggs on metal rack and add 1 cup of COLD water into pot.  Close pressure cooker and manually set for 4 MINUTES.  Once done, manually release the pressure and carefully place eggs into an ice bath.
  3. SUPER SOFT BOILED: Place eggs on metal rack and add 1 cup of COLD water into pot.  Close pressure cooker and manually set for 2 MINUTES.  Once done, manually release the pressure and carefully place eggs into an ice bath.

There are a couple things that I have noted from doing eggs in my Instant Pot for the past few months.

  •  Eggs straight from the fridge work best for me
  • Farm fresh eggs, or eggs straight from your yard if you are lucky to have chickens cook a little differently because they are just sooo fresh. Try eliminating a minute from each “method” as they seem to cook faster.
  • I found no difference in putting 1 layer of eggs in and stuffing as many as I could in there.

Also please note that higher altitude will change your cooking time.  🙂  You will need to shorten the time for higher altitudes!

What kind of egg do you like best? I personally like the hard-boiled kind best.

Whole30: yes

Paleo: yes
