I’ve finally done it…..I’ve cooked ribs! Ribs have always been kind of intimidating, don’t you agree?! I’ve always heard about all the prep work that needed to go into them, and that just sounded like no fun. Plus, ribs are totally a “dude” food to make, or at least it always seems like the guys want to cook the ribs!! But the other day, we were having company over, ribs were on my mind, and my husband was at work. So, I pinterest-ed the crap outta my morning looking for a good rub to put on it. Unfortunately most everything had brown sugar in it or even a can of soda. So I decided to get inspiration from my friends over at Primal Palate who have an organic bbq rub that’s to die for. I would have used their bbq rub, but I am almost out and I really like using it on my eggs in the morning, so I made my own with inspiration from their ingredients.
Now I’m not gonna say that these are THE BEST ribs out there, I mean lets be real, everyone says they have the best rib recipe, but they are pretty freakin’ delicious. The rub is on point and the meat falls right off the bones, which is just what everyone wants from their ribs right?!! I also need to note that only the last 15 min were they cooked on the grill. After talking to my father-in-law, who is a rib making pro, he said to cook in the oven then finish off on the grill. So I obeyed. Cooking in the oven first assures that they won’t burn or dry out.
- 2 tbl smoked paprika
- 1 tbl tumeric
- 1 tbl garlic powder
- 1 tsp cayenne pepper
- 1 tsp minced onion
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tbl oregano
- 1 tbl italian seasoning
- Your favorite bbq sauce**
- 2-4 racks of ribs
- Take your ribs and turn upside down. Some ribs have a thin piece of skin that you want to remove to make sure the rub gets into the meat. If your ribs have that, cut it then take a paper towel and pull it off.
- Mix all your seasonings together in a bowl and rub all over the ribs. Wrap the ribs in aluminum foil and let sit for at least an hour.
- Preheat oven to 275 degrees.
- On a baking sheet place foiled ribs into oven and cook for 2 hours.
- When you have about 10-15 min left get your coals ready for the bbq. If you have a gas grill omit this step!
- Once the grill is ready take your ribs and brush a little bbq sauce over it. Place thick side down in indirect heat, close lid and let cook for about 7 min.
- Open grill, brush a bit more sauce over it and flip them so the bones are face down. Brush a little sauce over the top and let cook another 7 min.
- Remove from grill and let rest for 5-10 min.
When brushing the bbq sauce onto the ribs, don't put a lot on. You really want to taste the meat and the rub that has been put on it, not just bbq sauce.
I like tessemae's bbq sauce, their ingredients are very clean, but you can use whatever you like!
